Embedded World: Embedded PCs get Sapphire 100 x 100mm AMD Ryzen motherboards
The processor chips have Radeon Vega graphics and a Zen CPU -Ryzen Embedded V1000 or R1000 processors.
“The versatile and effective design of these boards with low power compute and high-resolution multimedia display capability make them perfect for a wide variety of industry applications in the embedded space such as industrial PC, interactive digital signage, thin clients and POS terminals,” claimed Sapphire director Paul Smith.
The boards are BP-FP5 and NP-FPS, both with a 4in x 4in (~100 x 100mm) footprint and up to 32Gbyte of dual-channel DDR4 (2,400MHz) SODIMM memory as well as expansion interfaces including M.2 sockets for WiFi and SSD modules.
- BP-FP5 supports up to three independent 4K displays with two on-board DisplayPort interfaces and an HDMI 2.0, and it has five USB ports
- NP-FP5 supports up to two independent 4K displays with two on-board mini-DisplayPort interfaces, and has five USB ports
Thermal design power (TDP) for both is 25W.
Computers for the new boards
At Embedded World in Nuremberg today, mini-computer firm Simply NUC announced three families of long life computers based on the Sapphire boards (specification table below).
- Post Oak (see photo) based on the BP-FP5 motherboards with Ryzen Embedded V1605B and R1606G
- Red Oak based on the NP-FP5 motherboards Ryzen Embedded R1505G and R1305G
- Evergreen a more cost-effective solution based on the BP GX424CC-LC2 motherboard
