1kW modular power supply is industry’s first fanless model, claims Relec

The power supply measures 6.5 x 10-inch (165 x 254mm) and is 1U high. The U-channel design is based on patented, resonant technology. It provides up to 1,000W with 100% natural convection cooling, which negates the need for a fan or baseplate cooling, which eliminates acoustic noise and vibration, says the company.
Efficiency is 94% and MTBF is in excess of 400,000 hours; this is 25% better than competing solutions, reports the company. Safety features include a high input surge protection (4kV line to protective earth) and reverse energy protection so blocking diodes are not needed.
There are two COOLX1000 versions: the CX10S and the CX10M. The CX10S is certified to IEC62368-1 and IEC60950 for industrial applications and the CX10M is certified to IEC60601-1 3rd edition and IEC60601-1-2 4th edition (EMC) and ISO13485 for medical applications. It offers 2x MOPP and is also MIL-STD-810G-qualified.
Both models can be populated with up to six CoolMods, providing up to 12 isolated DC outputs ranging from 2.5V to 58.0V. Outputs can be configured and connected in parallel or series for higher output current and/or higher output voltages.
System designers can use either analogue or digital communications (PMBus) for communications, power control and management.
Target applications are clinical diagnostic and radiology imaging equipment, test and measurement, industrial automation equipment, telecommunications, audio equipment; and naval and ground-based radar systems.
No factory set up is required and the supplies are covered by a five-year warranty.
