ST to slash production in France

The unions involved are the CFE-CGC and the CFDT.

The head of the CFDT union, Eric Potard, said that workers will stay at home on a rotating basis and keep all their pay whether they work or not.

All the company’s production sites will be affected including ST’s most advanced fabrication site and R&D centre at Crolles  (pictured).

Other production sites in France are at  Rousset and Tours.

“The goal is to reduce activity in order to reduce the number of people on production sites as much as possible,” Jean-Pierre Kiledjian, leader of the CFE-CGC told Reuters.

A third union involved – CGT – argued that ST should close down all its plants and cease production.

ST has plants in Singapore, Milan, Catania and Malta among other sites and can shift French production to those plants pro tem.

The company also has foundry arrangements with TSMC and Samsung among others and may be looking to out-source wafers.
