500W PSU for marine loads
Powered by a nominal 24V distributed supply (18 to 36V range) ENMA500D24/2×27-CC provides two 27Vdc 20A isolated outputs.
Droop to 10V for 10s can be accommodated, and efficiency is >85%.
When redundancy is not required but the application needs two independent outputs, the 540W can be split between the two 27V outputs in any ratio.
Protection against input reverse polarity, output short-circuit, over-temperature, over-voltage and over-current is included, and it is designed according to EN60068-2-x and complies with the EN 60950 safety standard.
Being sealed to IP56 case for resistance to high-pressure and heavy water sprays, the PSU has external heatsinks for thermal exchange between inner components and the ambient outside.
“Ships and vessels are full of electrical and electronic equipment requiring robust and safe power supplies,” said Powerbox. “Although many applications can be powered by marine certified commercial off-the-shelf power supplies, others are very specific, requiring unique power solutions designed to pair with the final application.”
The servo motors used to operate ‘fast-switched valves’ for safety purposes in fuel injection pumps, orientable propellers and engine control are some of the applications that the company is aiming at, saying: “As failure is simply not an option in such types of equipment, fast-switched valve manufacturers often use two independent power supplies to guarantee redundancy. However, considering the equipment is installed in very compact and harsh environments, this can be a challenge for the installer.”
